I just finish my first maintenace series BCG treatment last Monday, Feb. 28. Two days later March 2nd, I had my annual check up with my Internist. Since I had just finish the BCG tx no UA was done at the Doctors office but blood work was. Sorry, can't answer your question as my husband did not have blood work after his BCG treatments. This is interesting, I will be waiting to see if anyone else had this problem. My husband is diabetic. Steroids have a huge impact on blood sugar levels, but none of the other chemos and treatments he has been through seem to make much difference. He has not had BCG. However, another thing we find that can make a difference is stress. If you're going through BCG and bladder cancer, you've got stress. Could be that's all it is. Or maybe you had a hot fudge sundae on your way to the doctor?
I have diabetes and have had numerous BCG treatments. I did not have any noticeable change in my blood glucose levels during the treatments. I tested my blood glucose twice a day. If you experienced significant stress associated with the BCG you may have had a rise in glucose. Thank you all for the replies. I will have to say that the last 3 BCG treatments were much worst then the first 6. I had a lot of discomfort, a constant urge to urinate. I also passed a lot of blood and many blood clots with tissue. The side effects lasted well into the day after treatment and I was feeling pretty good two days after the treatment. I guess I could have been stress out and maybe things with my glueclose will be OK by next Tueday when I do the test. Type 1 diabetic with insulin pump. Usually test sugars 6-7 times a day.
I should be starting BCG treatments soon. Will let you know if it impacts my sugars. I am a type II diabetic and I did notice my blood sugar levels were higher during BCG but attributed that to stress.
